Central Working Dog Group – Club Trial

On 19th November 2017, Central Working Dog Group held their winter IPO club trial in Kilsby, Northamptonshire.

There was a total of 8 entries: 2 x BH (Companion Dog Test/Begleithund) and 6 x IPO titles ranging from IPO1 to IPO3.

I entered with: Westmids Lexi (IPO3) and Vonloi Aria (BH).

This would be Lexi’s last club trial to enable me to concentrate more on training and competing with her daughter, Aria.

The day didn’t get off to a great start due to difficult tracking conditions, and a few teams did not make it around their tracks. Lexi was also in season which meant we went last in all phases, so after having left her track for well over an hour, a fox was spotted walking all over it prior to us running it, leaving fresh scent everywhere. Somehow she managed to get round it but sadly missed 2 out of the 3 articles costing us valuable points, but I was happy she made it round with a score of only 71, but still a qualifying score.

Back at the club, we started off with the BH’s. Now was the turn of Lexi’s daughter, Aria.

Aria and I started with the obedience, putting In a respectable performance even with a rather enthusiastic recall, at a top speed of 100 mph, or so it felt when she crashed into me. something we need to work on…! then we moved on to the traffic test, which went by without a hitch.

Now back to business with the IPOS’ obedience and protection, due to Lexi and one other female being in season we had to sit back and watch the other participants complete all their phases. We watched some lovely performances by everyone, one guy even achieving 99 out of 100! Once they had all completed their elements it was the turn of Lexi and Kali, starting with the obedience phase closely followed by protection.

We managed a score of 84 in obedience and 80 in protection, losing points due to extra commands on the “outs”..

It was a good day for the Vonloi teams, Aria passing BH and Lexi obtaining another qualifying IPO3 score.
